ROYAL OAK, Mich. – The Detroit Zoo invites visitors to spring forward into Daylight Saving Time while learning about amphibian conservation at Spring Forward. The event takes place on Sunday, March 13, 2016, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the National Amphibian Conservation Center and is free with Zoo admission.

Spring Forward will feature zookeeper talks and the opportunity to view the animals up close while learning about amphibian conservation. The event will also include activities such as frog mask-making, leap frog games and storytelling. The Rainforest Café’s tree frog mascot, Cha! Cha!, will be on hand to take photos with visitors.

“Our goal is to bring amphibian awareness to children in a fun yet educational way,” said Scott Carter, chief life sciences officer of the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS). “We want to help kids make the connection between what is happening to amphibians in the wild and how they can do their part now so that living sustainably becomes a habit as they grow up.”

In 2000, the DZS responded to the monumental global crisis facing amphibians in the wild and assumed a leadership role in conservation and research by creating the National Amphibian Conservation Center at the Detroit Zoo. The award-winning, state-of-the-art facility boasts a spectacular diversity of frogs, toads, salamanders, newts and caecilians – prompting The Wall Street Journal to declare the amphibian center “Disneyland for toads”.
