ROYAL OAK, Mich.,
The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) is hosting its annual humane education workshop this Saturday, facilitated by Zoe Weil, president of the Institute for Humane Education. Titled “The World Becomes What You Teach”, the professional development workshop will be held Dec. 1, 2018, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the Detroit Zoo’s Ford Education Center.
Sponsored by the DZS’s Berman Academy for Humane Education, the workshop is designed to help educators explore the pressing issues of our time and assess the role of schooling to address them. Teachers and community educators will learn how to bring global ethical issues into the classroom through innovative activities and approaches that enable their students to become conscientious change makers and effective problem solvers for a more humane, peaceable and healthy world.
“The workshop will help participants channel their passion for a better world into effectively educating and inspiring others,” said Diane Miller, DZS chief program officer. “Humane education is such an important part of our mission, and we are thrilled to have Zoe Weil herself facilitate this workshop.”
The workshop is recommended for classroom teachers and community educators, but is also open to students, animal management professionals, animal advocates and other persons interested in humane education.
Tickets for the workshop are still available with less than 20 seats remaining. The registration fee is $20 and includes a light breakfast, lunch and the text for the course, “The World Becomes What You Teach” by Zoe Weil.
