ROYAL OAK, Mich., 

For the first time in Zoo Boo history, all 125 acres of the Detroit Zoo will be open for this annual “merry-not-scary” Halloween celebration. Presented by Beaumont Children’s, Zoo Boo will be held October 11-13, 18-20 and 25-27, from 3 to 7:30 p.m., rain or shine. The Zoo will close at 2 p.m. on those days to prepare for the event.

Family-friendly crowd favorites from past Zoo Boo events will return, including dazzling and daring aerialists, mesmerizing mimes, superhero reenactments, a joking juggler and height-defying stilt-walkers. Guests can take a trip through a corn maze, check out the pumpkin smasher and make friends with haunted creatures while enjoying fabulous pumpkin displays. A festively decorated treat trail, photo opportunities and educational activities will be located throughout the Zoo.

The entire Zoo will be open until dark, allowing guests to visit all their favorite animals. Elaborate pumpkin displays will line the treat trail, where greeters will hand out goodies to costume-clad children at stations along the route. Guests are asked to join the Detroit Zoological Society on its Green Journey by bringing their own trick-or-treat bags; bags are not distributed at the event.

Ticket prices for Zoo Boo vary based on day and time. Children younger than 2 are admitted free. Pre-sale time slots for Zoo Boo are 3 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 4 p.m., 4:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. Tickets for 5:30 p.m. will only be available as walk-up tickets, which close for entry at 6:30 p.m. Guests entering after 5:30 p.m. will pay a lower ticket price and receive access to the traditional half-mile Zoo Boo trail only, as timing will not allow for these guests to visit the entire Zoo. Parking is $8 per car. Tickets can be purchased at the front of the Zoo or online at detroitzoo.org.

A 15-minute version of “The Wizard of Oz 4-D Experience” will be shown at the Wild Adventure Zone in the Ford Education Center for $5 per person. Zoo Boo guests can take a one-way ride on the Tauber Family Railroad for $3 per person or go for a spin on the Carousel, sponsored by Meijer, for $2 per person.
