Archive: Detroit Zoo Attendance Tops One Million for 10th Year
Dinosauria and Cotton Family Wolf Wilderness help attract visitors

ROYAL OAK, Mich.,
The community said “thanks a million” to the Detroit Zoo for the 10th consecutive year on August 25 when 2015 attendance surpassed one million. Dinosauria and the new Cotton Family Wolf Wilderness contributed to the strong numbers.
Dinosauria, featuring 40 animatronic dinosaurs that snarl and move (and some that spit), has provided more than 240,000 Zoo visitors with a mega-dose of Vitamin Z since it opened in late May. The blockbuster summer attraction is slated to end on Labor Day.
The Cotton Family Wolf Wilderness, which opened in early June, is a 2-acre naturalistic habitat that features grassy hills and meadows, native Michigan trees, a flowing stream and pond, dens and elevated rock outcroppings from which two gray wolves can survey their surroundings and Zoo visitors.
“We appreciate the million-plus visitors who have supported the Detroit Zoo this year and we’re excited to unveil our world-class Polk Penguin Conservation Center next year,” said Detroit Zoological Society Executive Director and CEO Ron Kagan.
