The Detroit Zoological Society “critter parade” logo and the names Detroit Zoo, Detroit Zoological Park, and Belle Isle Nature Center are trademarks and/or servicemarks of the Detroit Zoological Society. We remind you that this site and its contents are protected by US and international copyright laws. And we ask you to agree to limit use of the content contained in the Detroit Zoological Society web site to personal, non-commercial use; and not to distribute or transmit the content to anyone else. Law prohibits use of any text or images from this site without express permission. Feel free to link your website to our home page. Any “Detroit Zoo” web sites not maintained by the Detroit Zoological Society must include a header indicating that they are “not supported or maintained by the Detroit Zoological Society and may contain outdated or inaccurate information.”
The Detroit Zoological Society reserves the right to add, change, modify, delete or otherwise update the Detroit Zoological Society web site at any time, including those actions which make the Detroit Zoological Society web site unavailable for use. Ticketing, Membership, and Education Terms
Ticketing:
- No refunds/exchanges
- One admission/show/ride per ticket
- Not responsible for lost/stolen tickets
- Admission tickets not valid for special events
Membership:
- Memberships ordered online become effective immediately and your email confirmation serves as your temporary card granting you free admission and parking to the Zoo. Please print your confirmation receipt at the end of your transaction
- Membership Gift Certificates will begin the day that the recipient redeems it and expires one year from that date.
- Allow a minimum of three to seven days for processing memberships purchased online, and a minimum of two weeks for memberships purchased by mail.
- One cardholder listed on the membership must be present any time the membership is used for admission to the Zoo.
- Zoo memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.
- The Detroit Zoo reserves the right to revoke a membership if appropriate conduct has been violated.
Education:
- I give the Detroit Zoological Society permission to administer basic first aid (i.e. bandage, icepack) to the above participant. The Detroit Zoological Society does not dispense medications, including pain relievers. In case of illness or injury to my child, I give consent to the Detroit Zoological Society to seek medical attention for the above participant and I hereby authorize any treatment deemed necessary. I understand that I will be responsible for any associated costs. Special arrangements can be made for administration of medications to a child with signed permission from a parent. I understand that my child is allowed to carry emergency medications (inhalers, epinephrine injectors) with signed parent permission.
- I give the Detroit Zoological Society or its agent’s permission to take photos, audio recordings and/or video of the above participant and to use said media taken of the above participant for promotional efforts, and I waive any right to compensation for such use.

Privacy Policy
The Detroit Zoological Society does not collect personal information about visitors to our Website unless you choose to provide that information to us. We do not require this information for patrons to obtain access to our site. However, in order to participate in some of the programs offered on the Detroit Zoological Society or a partner website, you may be asked to provide personal information. Occasionally, we may also ask for personal information for our own internal marketing use. We will only collect personal information which you knowingly and voluntarily provide by, for example, sending emails, completing membership forms, or registering for classes, events, or other programs. We may contact you to provide information about our activities, programs, membership, and special events that may interest you. We will use our best efforts to only collect information from individuals over the age of 13. We may share any information you provide to us with our sponsors, partners, and affiliates.

Donor Privacy Policy
The Detroit Zoological Society will not trade, share or sell a member’s or donor’s personal information with any other individual or organization, nor will the DZS send member or donor mailings on behalf of other organizations. When you use the App, we automatically collect specific data that are required for the use of the App. This data includes: location, accuracy, and date/time periodically throughout the day (only while at the attraction), each visit to the resort (including date/time first seen and last seen), operating system, operating system version, device name, battery level, battery status (charging or not), Bluetooth status (on or off), mobile network carrier name, currently connected Wi-Fi SSID, location permission status (on or off), IP address, user’s preferred locale, current time zone, app version and build number, app interactions (captured as events fed to Firebase Analytics and Keen IO), and date/time entered/exited geofence region (if you enter an offered geofence region).
This data is automatically sent to us, (1) so that we can make the service and the associated functions available to you; (2) to improve the functions and features of the App and (3) to prevent misuse and to rectify malfunctions and (4) to offer you a personalized guest experience. This data processing is justified on the basis that (1) the processing is required in order to fulfil the requirements of the contract between you as the data subject and us in accordance with Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR for the use of the App, or (2) we have a legitimate interest in guaranteeing the functionality and fault-free operation of the App and being able to offer a service that is in line with the requirements of the market and with the interests of the users and prevails over your rights and interests in the protection of your personal data in accordance with Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR

Photo Policy
DETROIT ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY
FILM/VIDEO/STILL/ PHOTOGRAPHY POLICY
FOR COMMERCIAL, NON-COMMERCIAL AND WEDDING PURPOSESFilm/Video/Photos for Non-Commercial Purposes:
Film, video and still photography are permitted for personal non-commercial use. If photos are for non-commercial purposes, you may come to the Detroit Zoo as a regular visitor (admission and parking fees will apply; please see our website for current hours and prices, www.detroitzoo.org) and take your photos provided all the following apply:
- Photos cannot be sold or published.
- The number of people involved in the shoot is fewer than 10.
- No tripods or monopods are allowed in any indoor buildings or are allowed to block outdoor visitor pathways.
- The party is not permitted to stop Zoo traffic in order to take the photos.
- The party is not permitted to disrupt Zoo visitors, staff or the animals in any way.
- Photos must be taken during regular Zoo hours.
- No special consideration shall be given (e.g., golf carts, security, etc.).
Film/Video/Photos for Commercial Purposes:
For all film, video and still photography produced on Detroit Zoo grounds for commercial purposes, a written agreement must be entered into with the Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) and a fee paid per the current fee guidelines. Two weeks advance notice is required.
Fee Guidelines:
Fees are determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the nature and purpose of the project, its intended market, its potential promotional value to the Zoo, time of day, time of year, displacement of other revenue-generating events (catering, overnights, etc), disruption to exhibits and guests, access to behind-the-scenes areas, the impact of the production upon staff and animal care, length of stay and the extent to which the Zoo is required to support the project. Following are some general fee guidelines, subject to discussion and mutual agreement.- $300 per photo for photos taken at the Detroit Zoo that are to be sold to an outside source, printed for use in a publication, or used in marketing, promotional and published materials, or retail merchandise and products
- $500 for every two hours of shooting for commercial film/video/photo shoots (Additional fees may apply for setup and cleanup as well as golf carts and security.)
- $1,500 for every two hours of shooting for commercial film/video/photo shoots involving animals and zookeepers or other staff
- $2,000 per day (8 hours) for commercial film/video/photo shoots that do not involve animals and zookeepers or other staff
- $6,000 per day (8 hours) for commercial film/video/photo shoots involving animals and zookeepers or other staff
It is strictly forbidden to use images taken at the Detroit Zoo or of the Detroit Zoo logo without a written agreement and payment of the required fee for commercial activities, which include but are not limited to marketing, promotional and published materials, or retail merchandise and products.
General Rules:
- A tripod or monopod is not permitted for film, video and still photography for non-commercial use in any of the indoor buildings during posted Zoo hours. Tripods may be used outdoors as long as they do not block any walkways or interfere with visitor traffic.
- Flash photography is permitted during posted Zoo hours.
- No power or electrical hookups will be provided by the DZS for the purpose of film, video and still photography.
- The safety of Zoo visitors and animals is of the utmost importance. Film, video and still photography for commercial and non-commercial use will not be permitted if it disrupts visitors’ use and enjoyment of the DZS facilities during posted public hours.
- Film, video and still photography for commercial and non-commercial use will not be permitted if it disrupts the animals in any way. Loud noises, certain lights/equipment or sudden movements may disturb the animals. All such things must be approved in advance to ensure animal safety.
- The DZS reserves the right to refuse permission for commercial or non-commercial film, video and still photography that is determined to not be in the best interests of the DZS.
- Commercial and non-commercial photos taken at the Detroit Zoo cannot depict the DZS in a negative light, nor should it have any association with organizations that are inconsistent with our mission of “Celebrating and Saving Wildlife and Wild Places”, such as hunting organizations, circuses that use exotic animals, fur manufacturers, etc.
- No vehicles are allowed in the park unless chaperoned by a Zoo representative. If an escort and a golf cart are needed, one golf cart may be used with a DZS driver. All equipment and/or people involved in the shoot should try to fit on a four-person golf cart or walk to their destination.
- If personal photos taken at the Zoo are to be sold to an outside source or are to be printed for use in a publication or on a Web site, a photography charge of $300.00 per photo is applied and a contract agreement stating the intended use must be signed prior to the event date. The prints cannot be sold or used in publications or on Web sites that do not support the DZS’s mission of “Celebrating and Saving Wildlife and Wild Places”. For example, the publication, Web site or outside source cannot support or depict organizations such as circuses that use exotic animals, hunters, or fur manufacturers, etc. If a caption is to be used with the photo, the caption must be faxed or emailed to the Communications Director for approval and proper photo credit should be applied.
- Photos must be clearly marked with owner’s name. Sales of photographs or merchandise/promotions in conjunction with photographs cannot use the Zoo’s brand or name as a promotional selling device.
- A 50% deposit is due at signing and the remaining portion is due prior to the scheduled photography shoot. All checks should be made payable to the Detroit Zoological Society.
To Schedule a Shoot: If you comply with these rules and would like to schedule a photo shoot or use existing photographs for commercial purposes or publication, follow the procedures outlined below.
Submit your request in writing at least two weeks in advance of the shoot date to Communications Director Jeff Sell.
- Include your name, address, phone number and email address.
- Explain where, when, and how the photos will be used (give names of programs, publications, etc.).
- Indicate how many people will be coming.
- Indicate how much time is needed for the shoot.
- Indicate any special equipment needed.
- Indicate what area of the Zoo in which you would like to shoot (e.g., Butterfly Garden, or in front of the lion habitat, etc.).
- List any other details that are important to the shoot.
- Email the information to [email protected].
To Use Existing Photos for Commercial Purposes:
- Submit in writing an explanation of how and where the photo(s) will be used (give names of programs, websites, publications, etc.) to Communications Director Jeff Sell.
- Include your name, address, phone number and email address.
- Email the information to [email protected].
- Your request will be reviewed and you will be contacted within 10 business days. If your request is approved, a contract will be signed by the parties and the fee will be due.
The DZS reserves the right to cancel any shoot at any time if it is not in the best interest of Zoo animals or visitors or is contrary to the Zoo’s mission.
