The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) is inviting elementary school teachers to a six-day workshop to enhance their existing science curriculum. Hands- on, inquiry-based learning experiences will address Next Generation Science Standards and move students from knowing to understanding. |

Humane Education Workshops |
The world becomes what we teach! Humane education is an approach to education that prepares students to take action to help people, animals, and the environment. On a regular basis, the DZS Berman Academy for Humane Education hosts humane education workshops by the Institute for Humane Education, Humane Education Advocates Reaching Teachers, and other experts in the field. |

Citizen Science, also known as Participatory Science, Community Science and Collaborative Science, is a gateway to building student interest in science concepts and STEM Literacy. The Detroit Zoological Society has curated a selection of projects that fit in with mandated science curriculum and can easily be extended to learning in out-of- school time. Citizen Science: Science in the Classroom ELEMENTARY EDUCATORS |
A hybrid, multiple workshop course will support teachers who would like to increase their effectiveness at teaching authentic science in their classrooms. Citizen Science projects that are simple to implement and engaging for all learners will be highlighted with ongoing support to implement them with students. |
