Bison

At the Detroit Zoo

Male Takoda and female Teetonka were born in 2007 and arrived at the Zoo in 2008. Females Willow and Juniper were born in 2022 and joined the Detroit Zoo herd in 2023. The bison roam their American Grasslands habitat.

Description
Bison are the largest mammals in North America. They have bulky heads, stocky necks, large shoulder humps, robust bodies and short upward-curving horns. Their coats are shaggy, dark and long on the head, neck, shoulders and forelegs, and short and brown on the rest of their bodies. Females are slightly smaller and more slender than males, but both have horns.
