Animal Rescues

For over 90 years, guests have visited the Detroit Zoo to see wildlife up close and in person.  They gain an understanding of the great responsibility we all share to protect and care for animals.

The Detroit Zoological Society (DZS) is oftentimes called upon to participate in lifesaving rescues.  Some animals are victims of the exotic pet trade, roadside zoos or circuses, and some purchased by private owners who could not provide proper care.

Your support makes it possible for our animal care staff to take part in such rescues and provide critical veterinary care.
